Goodbye Wondeful Korea

October 20, 2009

For our last day in Korea, Angela wanted to visit a traditional Korean village where they still practice the ancient traditions from hundreds of years past. That took up the entire day, but we were able to enjoy some wonderful sunshine and cool breeze. Our last meal was a very large proper Korean BBQ, with way too much food for two Americans. I will miss this wonderful country and the even nicer people. Tomorrow morning we get on a 10am flight, and we will arrive at ten am the same day in Atlanta. It will feel strange.

Back in Seoul

October 19, 2009

An early morning sunrise view off our deck, was the start to our day. Our last morning on Jeju Island consisted of an easy ride to the airport, lunch at the airport, and then an hour long flight back to Seoul. Our hotel tonight is a brand new place with a huge mall attached. Our room is top notch and we are in a great part of town. We had a late lunch after we arrived and have no evening plans. Tomorrow we’ll do it right and spend our last night in Korea with a traditional meal.

No More Busses!

October 18, 2009

Today was eventful, but not for the amount of events we did, but for the large amount of bus and taxi rides we took. We headed to the East side of the island to go see a huge crater island called Sunrise Point. It was a beautiful place where we had to climb a long series of stairs to reach to top. We were rewarded with an amazing view of the island. We climbed back down and hoped in a Taxi to go see a large section of lave tubes that are open to the public. We climbed down some stairs in the very dark tunnel where lave once flowed out toward the ocean.

We finished our self-guided tour and went to find a bus that takes us into the downtown area of Jeju Island.  The bus took a long time to get there and then we missed our next bus that was to take us back to our hotel. We broke down and hailed a taxi to drive us the long way back to the hotel. We had to order room service for dinner since there are no restaurants near our hotel, but it was good to have some pasta for the first time. Tomorrow we fly all the way back to Seoul to spend our last two days over here in beautiful Korea.

Another Great Hike

October 17, 2009

Woke up, went downstairs for a nice buffet breakfast, and then grabbed a taxi to the closest bus stop. We got on a bus that took us half way up the Hanna Mountain to start our hike for the day. When the bus dropped up off, way up in the hills, I felt the cold air hit my short sleeved arms. I wasn’t too worried because I knew I would be hiking up hill for a while and I would warm up nicely. Well, I warmed up and then we got to a section up top around 6000 feet, which was above the tree line. The wind was whipping across the top of this mountain and people were looking at me like I was crazy for hiking up here in the clouds with a short shirt on.  I pushed on and we started the decent and eventually got below the clouds to warmer weather. We grabbed a taxi back to our hotel so we could warm up. After that we took a nice walk along our little beach and then went in search of some dinner. All in all, a nice day here in Jeju.
