We woke up this morning to the sound of rain drop hitting the old slate roof. I pretty much knew that today would be a wash out due to the fact that the area has had so much rain in the past few months, and the roads and ground are becoming soggy mud pits, un-huntable. We had another wonderful breakfast and coffee, and decided to just pack it up and head out early instead of driving late into the night in the pouring rain. I was able to take a few pictures before we left town.  Thanks so much to the folks at Turkey Hill Plantation for providing us with some great experiences and accommodations. I’m sure I will be seeing you again in the near future.

Lots of Orange

Today was a long beautiful day in the South Carolina lowlands, we started around 9:00 and began an all day hunt for Quail. We take turns shooting while following English Pointer working dogs. These dogs were amazing athletes, zig-zagging back and forth through the tall brush and briars, scratched up and wet and eager to work. At one point one of the dogs was barking loudly and ended up chasing a huge Buck with long antlers, right toward us. I thought we were going to get run over by a deer while walking through the woods. We broke for lunch back at the house and then returned to the hunt after a session of shooting clay pigeons. The second half of our day resulted in more birds shot and more fun had. The weather was perfect and cool, with a beautiful sunset behind us. Now we enjoy some more wine and another well cooked meal. Tomorrow we do it again.

Turkey Hill Plantation

December 16, 2009

I’m not going to type much since we have polished off three bottles of the finest french red wine tonight. And I can barely see the screen, but i wanted to share just a couple of images I got on the way down here. I’ll explain them tomorrow.

I had the extreme pleasure of photographing one of the cutest little girls I’ve seen in a while. Not just cute, well behaved and very happy the entire two hour shoot. I was contacted by Anastyn’s mother Christi yesterday. She told me she needed some holiday/ thirteen month pictures of the little one. I was available , and the rest is history. These guys were a great family, we instantly clicked, talking about running and cycling. (things in my past). Anastyn was such a great kid and I really didn’t want to leave when I was finished. Thanks Christi and Nick for a fun rainy afternoon.
